Boxing is a workout for all ages

I believe that boxing is a workout for all ages. It starts with learning balance and coordination - as simple as this sounds, it is difficult to learn a new way of moving. If you don't believe me, watch a baby learning to stand.

Once you have learnt how to stand and move then we move onto learning basic punches. Then its on to exercises like callisthenics. Again, this is another area that needs to be learnt (or re-learnt) We had to learn how to slouch on the sofa in front of the TV so now we have to undo that learning.

Boxing is very good for exercising the upper body and arms, typically these areas are less developed in children and are usually less developed in adult. Our legs get a good workout from transporting us but our arms are neglected.

Increase fitness, focus and confidence

Boxing will increase you and your child's fitness, focus and confidence:

  • Fitness from having to exercise forgotten muscles and increasing stamina to finish a class
  • Confidence coming from learning new skills, working together in a group, seeing improvements, increased fitness and increased co-ordination
  • Focus coming from having to concentrate on learning new skills with an instructor keeping you on track
  • And Fun as its a team atmosphere and its like running around but with a goal

You can learn most of this by yourself or with your kids. However, a class is more fun and an knowledgeable instructor can help with sticking points.
